Do we dream of growing up to be parents and business owners at the same time? It’s rare. Not many people picture themselves running a family-owned business or just having a business and a family. But what if that path was your destiny to live? I’ve created a version of myself as a parent entrepreneur and listed out basic characteristics and possible traits other parents like myself, would have.

As always, I’ll never leave you hanging without going into detail of each characteristic in future posts, because it’s important to search for like-minded people who have an intertwined ball of interests too.

Its time to get moving with life the way you wanted in the first place. Having children along for the experience only makes for happier memories to be created.

I’ve looked at my past growing up, early adulthood, to now – building my (online)businesses- and put together a list of thoughts for becoming an entrepreneur parent, how being an entrepreneur can have positive influences when having children, and how our entrepreneur lifestyles can and will shape our children’s futures. I needed a mold to start and here’s what I came up with.

Not everyone’s path to being an entrepreneur parent will look the same, but some basic principles may be easy to spot.

Parent Entrepreneur characteristics:

  • Growing up with ideas for a new product or business venture.
  • Life took a different turn-still, not a business owner or entrepreneur, but often think about it, write’s notes, and stores them for “if there’s ever a day.”
  • Creating a financial nest for kids.
  • I wanted to be an entrepreneur- a new “job” as a parent.
  • Other sources of income.
  • Give work to a busy person.
  • A lifestyle that grows with a family.
  • Time freedom.
  • Homeschooling by an entrepreneur parent.
  • Enjoying products or services with children.
  • The service we give our children.
  • More ideas from kid products.
  • Homeschooling by an entrepreneur parent.
  • Building a family of ‘preneurers’.

What are some common phrases you’ll hear from parents these days?

  • I wish I could be a stay at home mom/dad.
  • I’m a stay-at-home mom/dad, but I wish my spouse had the same time freedom to be home with us…they’re always missing out.
  • We both have to work…
  • I don’t like daycare but…
  • I don’t have time to be with my kids for all their school activities.
  • My son/daughter is having issues at school and I can’t give them my full attention.
  • I wish my child was in a better school.
  • I don’t have time to make good home-cooked meals.
  • I just wish I could find work I can do from home and make my own hours!

Oh boy, that list of unfulfilled wishes can get to be a mile long-or two- if given the chance. Parents don’t want to feel they always have to sacrifice one area in their lives for another, just so you and your children can HAVE.

Family life doesn’t have to be this way and many parents are putting their foot down, and it’s not over who started the fight or isn’t sharing the fruit snacks. Parents, like myself, are finally buckling down and getting serious about making sure their family is happy, financially stable, and compromising time is no longer an issue.

With business, there’s always a sacrifice of time, but when you build your business online, hours are manageable. Read for yourself how others are gaining speed with their businesses here.

Do you see yourself in the list above? Think back to your dreams and how you can merge the world of business and family. There’s no one stopping you as an adult from having your dreams come true.
